Mace has never sponsored nor voted for legislation that banned abortion without exceptions and has always supported women’s access to contraceptives; these attacks are provably false

CHARLESTON, S.C. — U.S. Representative Nancy Mace’s campaign is issuing a statement debunking her opponent’s false claims from a press conference today.

In that press conference – and in her opponent’s new TV ad – Dr. Annie Andrews falsely claims Congresswoman Mace “cosponsored a bill that would ban abortion with no exceptions for rape or incest” citing her cosponsorship of H.R. 1011. The bill, however, doesn’t reference abortion at all and does not ban abortion in any way, shape or form.

“This is yet another lie, in a series of lies, from Annie Andrews about Nancy Mace,” said Austin McCubbin, Campaign Manager. “Nancy is on record supporting exceptions and in fact helped write exceptions into South Carolina law. Andrews is an abortion extremist who supports unlimited abortions, without regulations.”

FACT CHECK

  • HR 1011 doesn’t reference abortion and doesn’t ban abortions (H.R. 1011).
  • Mace has never sponsored let alone voted for an abortion bill that did not include exceptions.
  • Mace shared her story of being raped in 2019 and wrote an amendment to South Carolina’s heartbeat bill that protected women and girls who’ve been raped or victims of incest (LINK).
  • Mace is on record supporting legislation and voting for legislation that includes exceptions for life of the mother, rape, incest and fetal abnormalities.
  • Mace is on record supporting women’s access to every form of contraception including Plan B, emergency contraceptives, IVF, IUDs, birth control pills and everything else.
  • Mace voted in favor of legislation that would guarantee women’s right to contraceptives; she was one of only eight republicans to vote for the Right to Contraception Act (HR 8373) earlier this summer. This bill included all forms of contraceptives like IVF, IUDs, Plan B, emergency contraceptives, birth control pills, etc.
  • While Andrews touted “Republican women” at her press event today, when in reality she brought female democrats instead.

Mace has made dozens of public statements and given dozens of media interviews on this subject since 2019 regarding her support for exceptions and contraceptives. It is deeply troubling to see such blatant, provably false, lies being told about Mace and her record.
