Congresswoman Nancy Mace today praised Governor Henry McMaster and the Trump Administration following approval of South Carolina’s waiver to exclude candy, energy drinks, and sugary beverages from SNAP benefits.
“Governor McMaster’s leadership on SNAP reform shows what’s possible when state and federal leaders work together to ensure taxpayer dollars promote health, not harm,” said Congresswoman Nancy Mace. “President Trump and Secretary Rollins deserve credit for approving this common-sense approach that puts South Carolina at the forefront of making America healthy again.”
Rep. Mace announced the introduction of the Food Assistance Integrity and Responsibility (FAIR) Act to combat rampant fraud in the SNAP program.
“While Governor McMaster is ensuring SNAP benefits go toward nutritious food, we must also ensure those benefits reach the families who need them,” Mace said. “South Carolina ranks 12th in the nation for SNAP debit card fraud. With more than $100 million in stolen benefits during the first quarter of 2025 alone, it’s time to bring real accountability to this program.”
The FAIR Act would implement additional security measures to reduce fraud and protect vulnerable families from having their benefits stolen by criminal networks.
“This is about protecting taxpayers and protecting families,” Mace concluded. “South Carolina is leading on SNAP reform, and I’m proud to support both Governor McMaster’s health-focused approach and President Trump’s commitment to program integrity.”
