Rep. Nancy Mace Represents Herself in Court and Wins

REP. NANCY MACE WINS COURT REMOVAL, VINDICATING THE FIRST AMENDMENT AND HER CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS

Congresswoman Mace Represented Herself in Today’s Proceeding

Today, Congresswoman Nancy Mace secured a significant legal victory with the successful removal of her civil case from state to federal court, affirming the constitutional protections afforded under the First Amendment, political speech, and Constitutional protections for federal legislators under the Speech or Debate Clause and federal supremacy, et al.

A sitting Congresswoman going pro se against the establishment and winning is unheard of.

“I stood in front of the judge, representing myself, and successfully moved this constitutional debate, where it belongs, in Federal Court,” said Rep. Mace.

A South Carolina court tried to unconstitutionally silence Rep. Mace from doing her job and silence her in her run for Governor with an unconstitutional and unenforceable gag order, among other things.

Rep. Mace added, “In fact, opposing counsel suggested to the Judge I should be jailed for tweeting about injustices. They weaponized the state court. I pushed back and won.”

“Today, the law spoke clearly, the Constitution protects members of Congress and our citizenry from exactly this kind of harassment, interference, and intimidation. I took on the establishment and won. I look forward to arguing the First Amendment and other Constitutional matters in federal court.”

The removal to federal court represents a critical turning point in litigation that Rep. Mace has characterized as coordinated lawfare designed to obstruct her legislative duties and interfere with her gubernatorial campaign.

Federal court jurisdiction ensures that constitutional questions regarding the First Amendment, Speech or Debate Clause and Federal Supremacy protections will be adjudicated in the proper forum.

Rep. Mace has consistently maintained the evidence she uncovered and reported to SLED, the FBI, and the U.S. Attorney’s office led to retaliatory legal actions by those she exposed. Her experience has driven her to author over a dozen pieces of federal legislation strengthening voyeurism and privacy protections nationwide.

“Someone who stands up for herself in this way will always stand up in this way for her constituents,” Rep. Mace continued. “It’s about standing up for your First Amendment rights, the Constitution, and standing against powerful people and powerful interests who think they can abuse the legal system to destroy anyone they want. South Carolinians deserve leaders who won’t back down. I didn’t, and never will.”

The case will now proceed in Federal court, where Rep. Mace will continue to pursue justice.

Rep. Mace added, “I yield to no one who seeks to silence the truth.”
