STATEMENT FROM REP. NANCY MACE ON RELEASE OF TROOPER DENNIS RICKS’ ALLEGED KILLER
“Anthony Aydlette should never have been behind the wheel of that truck. He had a 10-year history of suspensions, crashes, and traffic violations. He was driving under suspension when he allegedly killed South Carolina Highway Patrol Trooper Dennis Ricks, a husband, father, and hero who died protecting our community.
And now South Carolina let him walk free, out on bond.
This is exactly what’s wrong with our justice system. Repeat offenders get chance after chance while families bury their loved ones. Trooper Ricks was standing on the side of I-26 doing his job when Anthony Aydlette drove onto the shoulder and killed him. Three days later, Trooper Ricks died at the hospital.
When I’m Governor, repeat offenders will face real consequences. Trooper Dennis Ricks deserved better. His family deserves better. South Carolina deserves better.
Rest in peace, Trooper Ricks. South Carolina will never forget your service and sacrifice.”
