NANCY MACE CALLS ON SC SENATE TO RECONSIDER ONE BIG BEAUTIFUL BILL CONFORMITY
Congresswoman Nancy Mace today called on the South Carolina Senate to immediately reconsider House Bill 3368, urging them to conform the state’s tax code with the One Big Beautiful Bill Act and deliver real relief to South Carolina families filing their taxes right now.
The South Carolina Senate voted 16-27 last week to kill the conformity bill. The decision means South Carolinians filing their 2025 state tax returns cannot access tax cuts on tips, overtime, and additional deductions for seniors on their state taxes – tax cuts already signed into law by President Trump at the federal level.
“South Carolina families are sitting at their kitchen tables right now filing their taxes, and they are paying state taxes on income the federal government no longer taxes, ” said Congresswoman Mace.
Without conformity, South Carolina taxpayers will owe state taxes on income that is newly exempt from federal taxation – including tips and overtime pay. Tax experts have indicated that some filers could see several hundred dollars more back if the bill passes, in some cases up to around $800.
The SCDOR has automatically extended the 2025 individual income tax filing deadline, no action required from taxpayers. However, payment is still due by April 15, 2026. Taxpayers who do not pay at least 90 percent of their 2025 tax liability by that date will face penalties. Taxpayers can pay balances at MyDORWAY.dor.sc.gov.
As the leading candidate for Governor of South Carolina, Congresswoman Mace has made tax relief a cornerstone of her platform, including her Five Years to Zero plan to fully eliminate the state income tax.
The Post and Courier has noted that Rep. Nancy Mace is the only candidate in this race with a detailed plan to eliminate the state income tax. Read more: https://nancymace.org/issues/nancy-mace-tax-plan/
