REP. NANCY MACE ONLY CANDIDATE WITH REAL PLAN TO ELIMINATE STATE INCOME TAX

Post and Courier Article: Rep. Mace Only Candidate in all of South Carolina with a Plan to Remove State Income Tax

U.S. Rep. Nancy R. Mace today confirmed, while other gubernatorial candidates pledge to reduce or eliminate South Carolina’s income tax, she remains the only candidate who has released a detailed, concrete plan to achieve it.

In a recent Post and Courier analysis of all gubernatorial candidates’ tax proposals, the publication reported: “U.S. Rep. Nancy Mace is the only candidate to post a detailed plan, dubbed ‘Five years to zero.'”

While her opponents have offered ideas, Rep. Mace is the only one with a real plan with a clear, specific path to eliminating the state income tax.

FIVE YEARS (or less) TO ZERO:

Cap State Spending: Freeze the general fund at 2023 levels ($11.6 billion), immediately cutting roughly $3 billion from current spending. Any revenue beyond that cap would be dedicated to tax cuts.

Mandate Efficiency: Require 1- 4% budget cuts to every agency annually for up to five years, with flexibility if revenues continue rapid growth.

Eliminate the Income Tax: Use natural revenue growth and spending discipline to phase out South Carolina’s income tax entirely within five years, making the state more competitive with zero-income-tax states like Florida, Tennessee, and Texas.

“My plan is very simple,” Rep. Mace said. “You would freeze the general fund at 2023 levels. Any dollar above that threshold is returned to taxpayers in the form of a permanent tax cut. Eliminating the state income tax makes us more competitive with other states and puts money back in the pockets of hardworking South Carolina families.”

Every candidate talks about eliminating the income tax. Only Nancy Mace has shown South Carolinians exactly how it would be done.

Promises are easy. Plans take leadership.
