Governor McMaster Signs Nancy Mace’s Prison Reform Bill Into Law

Thank you, Gov. McMaster for signing my bill into law today! It is a tremendous honor to see how hard work does indeed pay off.

Today there are over 1,000 female inmates in South Carolina’s correctional system. Prior to my legislation, if they were pregnant, their health and that of their child was potentially in danger due to restrictive and archaic laws. This bill offers similar provisions to The First Step Act which was signed into law by the President in 2018.

Life is a series of second chances. And every life has value. Every life can be redeemed. I want to thank my colleagues for the unanimous vote on this bill, H3967, and I want thank Gov. McMaster for signing it into law.
