NANCY MACE TO INTRODUCE ANIMAL ABUSE REGISTRY AS GOVERNOR, FIGHTS ANIMAL CRUELTY IN CONGRESS

Animal Wellness Action Applauds Mace for Co-Sponsoring Federal FIGHT Act; Mace Pledges Statewide Registry to Track Animal Abusers

Congresswoman Nancy Mace, Republican candidate for Governor, is taking on animal cruelty at both the federal and state level. Rep. Mace is earning praise from national animal welfare advocates for co-sponsoring federal legislation to crack down on animal fighting operations and pledging to create South Carolina’s first Animal Abuse Registry as Governor.

ANIMAL WELLNESS ACTION APPLAUDS MACE’S LEADERSHIP

Animal Wellness Action has recognized Mace as the only South Carolina co-sponsor of the bipartisan FIGHT Act (H.R. 3946/S. 1454), legislation that would strengthen enforcement against illegal animal fighting operations.

More than 1,000 law enforcement agencies nationwide, including the South Carolina Sheriffs’ Association, have endorsed the FIGHT Act.

“We’re fighting to protect ALL of God’s creatures,” said Congresswoman Mace. “Animal cruelty is a serious crime, and those who abuse animals deserve serious consequences, not a slap on the wrist.”

MACE PLEDGES ANIMAL ABUSE REGISTRY AS GOVERNOR

As part of her plan to crack down on animal cruelty statewide, Mace has pledged to create an Animal Abuse Registry to prevent abusers from hiding and repeating their crimes.

“When I’m Governor, criminals will be treated like criminals,” Mace said. “An Animal Abuse Registry will ensure that those convicted of animal cruelty can’t simply move to another county and abuse again. Abusers will be tracked, monitored, and held accountable.”

The registry would be publicly accessible and require convicted animal abusers to register, similar to sex offender registries, making it easier for shelters, breeders, and law enforcement to identify and prevent repeat offenders.
