After Learning Alan Wilson Dropped 93% of P*dophile Cases in One County, Rep. Mace Demands Attorney General Release Statewide Data

Charleston, S.C. — Nancy Mace, Republican candidate for Governor, is calling on South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson to immediately release all statewide data on child pornography and child sexual exploitation cases after shocking failures were uncovered in Dorchester County.

A FOIA request revealed that from 2019–2022, the Attorney General’s Office:

  • Dismissed 356 of 385 cases involving child sexual exploitation (92.5% dismissal rate)
  • Secured only 29 convictions, with just two offenders receiving prison time
  • Left 324 cases pending for an average of 740 days

“These numbers are indefensible,” said Mace. “When nearly every single child predator case is dismissed and almost no one sees jail time, that is a complete failure of leadership and a direct threat to South Carolina’s children.”

Local prosecutors have already documented a loss of confidence in the Attorney General’s Office due to delays, dismissals, and lenient plea deals.

Mace is demanding:

  • Full statewide reporting of all child exploitation cases handled by the AG
  • Immediate oversight from state leaders
  • Accountability for why so many child predators are walking free
