While Alan Wilson Undermines Justice, Nancy Mace Defends Victims, the Integrity of the Courts and Law Enforcement
CHARLESTON, S.C. – AUGUST 5, 2025 – Congresswoman Nancy Mace condemned South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson in the harshest terms today for using his office to launch a politically motivated attack on Congresswoman Nancy Mace, to harm her credibility as a key witness in an open and ongoing investigation and upcoming lawsuit.
As the self-proclaimed “chief law enforcement officer” in South Carolina, Wilson knows better, but instead, he chose to lie to the press, smear a witness in an ongoing investigation, and weaponize his office to silence his critics. His conduct isn’t just unethical, it’s dangerous.
In an interview with Fox News Digital, Wilson defamed Mace as a “liar” and dismissed her entirely, stating:
“Mace is a liar who will do anything to get attention to distract from her liberal voting record,” said Wilson “It’s obvious to me that she thinks about me more than I think about her… I really don’t pay that much attention to this person.”
But the facts tell a very different story.
Wilson claimed his office had no involvement in the case. This is categorically false.
***Mace confirmed in an interview on FOX NEWS on Monday, August 4, 2025 that she went through the South Carolina Attorney General’s Office to get a victims rights advocate. She was assigned a victim’s rights advocate only after an 11-month delay that left her without proper support during a critical period.***
“No witness or victim should ever be attacked or discredited by the sitting Attorney General of their state for seeking justice and working with law enforcement and holding those who harm others accountable,” Mace said. “This is how little Alan Wilson thinks of victims in our state: he delays justice, spreads lies about witnesses and victims, and then tries to destroy the people who speak up. It’s no wonder Wilson doesn’t prosecute crimes and gives pedophiles one day jail sentences in their plea deals. He’s on the side of criminals, not victims.”
Mace added, “I will always stand with victims of all crimes, no matter the political or professional cost.”
LEGAL AND ETHICAL RED FLAGS
The Mace campaign is raising alarms about multiple, possible violations by Wilson and will pursue every remedy possible:
1. Defamation of a Legal Witness
Calling a clearly identified legal witness a liar in a pending case may constitute defamation, especially if made with malice or reckless disregard for the truth, both of which may apply here.
2. Witness Intimidation
Wilson’s aggressive and demeaning statements are a means to intimidate Mace and other potential witnesses, particularly in this sensitive case involving sexual assault, possible child sexual abuse material (CSAM), voyeurism, possible extortion and other possible wrongdoing and/or criminal activity.
3. Obstruction of Justice
As South Carolina’s top prosecutor, Wilson’s public statements may improperly influence the outcome of an ongoing criminal case, undermining judicial impartiality and fairness.
4. Tainting the Jury Pool
Wilson’s inflammatory language, delivered through national media, risks poisoning the jury pool before trial proceedings even begin.
“When the top law enforcement official in the state tries to silence a witness from speaking up for a victim, it’s not just irresponsible, it’s potentially unlawful,” Mace said.
MACE TO DEMAND FULL ACCOUNTABILITY
Congresswoman Mace is calling for immediate corrective action:
- A full public retraction and apology from AG Wilson for statements that may have defamed a key witness and obstructed justice.
- An investigation by the South Carolina Supreme Court’s Office of Disciplinary Counsel into whether Wilson violated ethical and professional standards.
- An Ethics Complaint against Wilson and his office.
“Alan Wilson didn’t just call me a liar, he called a material witness a liar,” said Mace. “And worse, he left a victim without support for nearly a year. That’s not just a failure, it’s a disgrace.”
