CONGRESSWOMAN NANCY MACE APPLAUDS GOVERNOR MCMASTER’S $1.1 BILLION INVESTMENT IN SOUTH CAROLINA ROADS
“This is how you govern, identify a problem, fund the solution, keep projects on track.”
Congresswoman Nancy Mace, candidate for Governor of South Carolina, today praised Governor Henry McMaster’s announcement that he will recommend an additional $1.1 billion in new state funding for road construction and infrastructure projects in his upcoming executive budget.

“Governor McMaster gets it,” said Mace. “South Carolina is booming, our population is growing faster than ever, and that’s a good problem to have. But growth means demand on our roads, and inflation has driven construction costs through the roof. The Governor’s proposal keeps critical projects on schedule instead of letting them stall out.”
The Governor’s announcement highlighted significant cost increases on major projects due to inflation:
-
I-26 widening (Charleston to Columbia): Up 50%, from $2.02 billion to $3.03 billion
-
I-95 widening (Georgia border to Point South): Up 132%, from $977 million to $2.27 billion
-
Carolina Crossroads (Columbia): Up 33%, from $2.06 billion to $2.75 billion
“These commitments we’ve made to the people of South Carolina,” Mace continued. “Inflation didn’t ask for permission, and we can’t let it derail progress. Governor McMaster is using surplus funds to keep his promises. That’s leadership.”
Mace noted that SCDOT has placed more than 10,000 miles of roadways under paving contract and replaced or rehabilitated over 450 bridges since 2017, progress she intends to continue and accelerate.
“As Governor, I will build on this foundation. We need to keep cutting red tape, streamline permitting, and make sure every dollar goes to actual construction, not bureaucracy. Governor McMaster has set the table. I’m ready to finish the job.”
